Currently: March 2017 || also Lent 2017, in which I have no idea what to do but want to do it anyways because that’s me

Aaand, it’s another Currently post on the first of the month! This month’s host are: Anne and Carrie!

This month’s prompts are: watching, eating, saying, wearing, and posting! Incidentally, these prompts are almost all things that I’m giving up on for Lent, so I’ll talk about that as well.

picture from Pinterest, editing mine, feat PicMonkey (WHO HAS NO LIKE LEGIT NO CUTE FREE FONTS OH THE INJUSTICE)

also yes, I know the colors don’t match

In case you didn’t know, Lent is the forty days before Easter, which begins on Ash Wednesday (today; also why it’s called that I don’t even know) and ends on Holy Saturday (the day before Easter). Lent is a time of repentance, fasting and preparation for the coming of Easter. It is a time of self-examination and reflection. In the early church, Lent was a time to prepare new converts for baptism. Here’s the link that I c/ped from 😄

Although I’m not Catholic, I’m planning on participating in Lent this year by giving up something(s) (which I’ll talk about in my points)

I don’t really watch movies or shows, but I do watch more YouTube than is good for me. 😄 (Top 5 Favorite Youtubers). So for Lent this year, I’m giving up on watching YouTube . . . except for one channel: Monica Church. She’s prepping for the Big Climb for Leukemia (climbing up the tallest skyscraper in Seattle), and all revenue from the channel will go towards Leukemia and Lymphoma society. I’m really interested in leukemia (I want to be an oncologist some day), so it’s a cause I’m standing behind.

Well, I can’t really think of anything in particular that I’m eating. o.0 (BUT RIGHT NOW I’M EATING SUPER GOOD MAC AND CHEESE SO THERES THAT)

But anyways, for Lent, I’m giving up eating sugar. (as in, pure, refined sugar, not like fruit sugar). This one’s probably going to be hard, and I’m going to be eating a lot of fruit 😄

Saying. . . .that I’m going to die soon. 😄 No, but seriously, there’s SO. MANY. THINGS. coming up and like, *flailing*

million things i havne't done.gif

lowkey like that gif way too much

Summer AND winter clothes! Seriously, how is it 45 degrees one day and 70 the next?

Lots of blogposts and lots of Instagram posts! I’ve been a bit more consistent posting Instagram posts, so I’m actually pretty excited about that!

For Lent, I’m giving up on following everyone on my personal Instagram that I don’t know personally. After Lent, I’ll decide on whether I’ll follow them back (don’t worry, y’all, you guys are on my blog Insta, so you aren’t affected :P)

What are you up to Currently? Are you giving up things for Lent? What are you giving up for Lent? How are you planning on growing in Jesus in March?

P.S. I’m also doing the March Bible reading plan from Little Faith Blog–feel free to join along with me!

Media This Month: January 2017

Usually I do a “What Happened This Month” recap every month, but this month I’m going to try something different. The WHTM posts are getting really big and hard to load, so I’m splitting it up into a “Media This Month” post with the new media I found this month and a “What Happened This Month” with a monthly summary and highlights and stuff.

We’ll see how it works.

What Happened This Month: December 2016 || Blogmas Day 30

So how on EARTH is it the day before the last day of 2016?! Let’s begin, shall we?

  • Cookie baking
  • Christmas concert
  • Doing Blogmas
  • Playing flute in the Christmas Eve and Christmas church services
  • Going on a family trip

  • When you follow 123 people on Twitter, 123 people on Instagram, and have 123 written blogposts at the same time
  • When you find Diego Rivera from the PSAT on a SAT/ACT prep question…
  • When a guy tells you to go on Pinterest to look up something

  • That ONE WEEK you’re on top of things and post homework early, no one else does so you can’t reply and get full credit.
  • When you go for 4 days without checking Insta and Twitter and get so behind that you don’t even bother to catch up
  • When you forget to post on both Instagram and Twitter on Christmas
  • When the first semester is officially over and I still don’t know how to pronounce the last name of my calc teacher, because asynchronous online courses…
  • When all the paperwork together for your online course is literally 8 inches thick, thus disproving the fact that online stuffs are more environmentally friendly
  • When an essay prompt is “Elaborate on your academic and personal experiences with science and tell us WHAT MAKES YOU HUNGRY FOR MORE?”
  • When colleges email you and ask you to apply but don’t tell you WHAT STATE THEYRE IN.

That Moment When-

  • You learn the hard way that unless you like really, really cold showers, don’t be that idiot that showers last.
  • You get flooded with blogmas posts to read and vlogmas videos to watch but still have to study for finals
  • You find out that it’s National Wear a Plunger on Your Head Day (LIKE WHAT EVEN)
  • You finally stalk the twitters of people you actually know in real life for the first time since you’ve made a twitter in 2014.
  • WordPress tells you to to upgrade to “rockandminerals4him.blog” for $22, when you could move to “rockandminerals4him.com” for $15
  • Colleges be like “Congratulations on your recent outstanding academic achievements, NOW COME PAY ME A LOT OF MONEY MUAHAHAHA”
  • Autocorrect changes “is” to “Ida” because OBVIOUSLY “Ida” is more commonly used than “is”

My Top 5 favorite YouTube videos…

My Top 5 favorite YouTube videos…

…that I’ve come across so far.

Well…or maybe, 5 favorite from my top 5 channels? Or top 5 from each channel in my top 5 categories list?

Nah, just top 5…but it’s going to be hard. Really hard. Like unbelievably hard.

I feel like this is really being unfair to many, many wonderful channels…but for me, to be one of my favorites, it really, really has to stand out. So to all of you DIY YouTubers out there…trust me, I watch your videos…but to me, they’re all about the same. While your DIY’s ARE really awesome and your decor tips are really helpful, I doubt that any of them will make my favorites list. In my head, they’re really all lumped into one category.

First off, this one from Studio C…Lobster Bisque! Oh, what can I say? This is the first YouTube video that officially made my burst out laughing. Sure, I had smiled before…and chuckled…and giggled…but burst out laughing? This was it.

Well…Y’all know about Brooklyn and Bailey…and my obsession with their song, Mommy It’s Good-

And…another from Studio C! International Relations. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched this already…

Yet another one from Studio C…AND Brooklyn and Bailey! This one is HILARIOUS.

And the last one…Cute Girl’s Hairstyles…Brooklyn and Bailey’s younger sister, Kamri’s first hair tutorial! It’s soooo simple…and I wear it SO often. Out of all the tutorials that CGH has ever posted, I think this one is the one that I have worn more than twice. Don’t get me wrong, CGH always has great hairstyles, but I really hate stirring from my go-to hairstyles, but this one, wow, I saw this and it became one of my go-to hairstyles!

This was actually really interesting. Who knew that my favorites are all “oldies but goodies”? These three channels, Brooklyn and Bailey, Studio C, and Cute Girls Hairstyles were the first three channels I ever watched on YouTube…and they are still my favorite channels, by far. The collab that Brooklyn and Bailey did with Studio C was the one that introduced me to Studio C…and that got me hooked!

This was definitely hard. Wow…I think the next time I do favorites, I have to do “Top 25” or something…but…I doubt that anyone would be interested, haha! This was also a very interesting post to do again in about a year or so, to see how my tastes have changed over time.

What are YOUR top 5 favorite YouTube videos?

P.S. I’m linking up my post to Allie’s blog!

YouTube Highlight: Brooklyn and Bailey

YouTube Highlight: Brooklyn and Bailey

If you’ve been following this blog for any period of time, you probably have noticed that my favorite YouTube channel is Brooklyn and Bailey.

Brooklyn and Bailey are identical twin girls whose mom started the channel Cute Girls Hairstyles to showcase her hairstyle making skills. With that background, they stepped into the YouTube world and they are the first second generation YouTuber(s) to hit 1 million subscribers (saying, their mom has 1 million and they have 1 million as well). They are really fun to watch…to say nothing of their charm, wittiness, and just happiness and love as a family. Their channel is much like the typical girl YouTuber channel- challenges, tags, vlogs, DIY’s and more, but there’s a certain aspect to their channel that makes it more appealing to me than any other channel I’ve watched so far. Although I may be watching a different video from a different channel when their newest video goes live, I stop whatever I’m watching and go straight to their video first. I can’t put my finger on what makes their channel so different, but their faith definitely plays into their channel. Brooklyn and Bailey are Mormons (not Christians), but having a background like that allows me to trust watching their channel much more.

The girls started their YouTube career as 13 year-olds (Their parents’ rule was that they had to 13 to start their channel) and their variety of videos, as well as their subscribers, have increased exponentially every year. They have done a few collabs, all with wonderful (and famous!) YouTubers, including Studio C, Shelby Church, MyLifeasEva, and Lindsey Sterling. Now, to let some of their videos speak for themselves-

Their vlog trip to Europe-

Meet Our Mom tag-

Both of these previous videos speak to their family’s relationship. They are a very close knit family and they enjoy spending time with each other, which is quite different from many teenagers in this day and time.

What’s in Our Backpack-

The Pictionary Challenge-

They also often do videos “featuring” their younger sisters, Kamri and Rylan, as shown by the example above.

The girls, who are almost 16 in December of 2015, are very pretty, both on the inside and on the outside. However, unlike many other YouTubers that I watch/am aware of, they always dress appropriately, without showing parts of their body that were meant to be kept private. This is also another aspect of their videos that I like. I know I can go to them and actually use their fashion ideas, unlike other channels’, where their idea of cute includes showing shoulders (which is okay with me, but depends on the shirt), midriff (which is NOT okay with me), or really tight outfits. While they do wear makeup, they don’t wear an excessive amount of makeup; they attempt to make it look natural, which enhances their natural beauty.

Their channel is also very clean. As I have mentioned, they are Mormons, so they obviously have a religious background. I have viewed almost all their videos, and I have yet to hear a bad (or even semi-bad) word in their channel.

All in all, I love watching Brooklyn and Bailey’s videos first of all because they’re so cute and so pretty and upbeat and positive…but also because I know that they are clean and that I won’t have to worry about people hearing or anything inappropriate in their videos.
