Instagram is TOO AESTHETIC || How to Do a Social Media Purge || My Thoughts About . . . Social Media

Hi!! Today, we’re talking . . . social media.

Instagram is TOO AESTHETIC

Now this isn’t the typical “Instagram is the highlight roll, don’t compare it to your bloopers” rant, even though it is important too. What I’m here to say is, you don’t have to care so much about your social media because PEOPLE DON’T ACTUALLY CARE.

Recently, I’ve been more attached to social media than usual (which is saying a lot #oops), and so I’ve been trying to actively cut back on the time I spend using it. I’m still in the process of figuring out what I can do to not waste my entire life on social media, but I’m actively avoiding social media for the time being.

I went on a social media purging spree the other day, and I went through my Instagram and Twitter and unfollowed all the people that I really didn’t need to follow. Some examples were-

  • people from a follow-for-follow type of deal. Unless I really LOVE their content, there isn’t a need to keep following them. (Disclaimer: I don’t actively participate in follow-for-follow or follow-chains or whatever else there is; I’m talking here about the people who follow you and you follow back for ‘politeness’ purposes.)
  • pages you follow multiple of. Do you really need to be following 6 kitten pages and 4 puppy pages? Cutting back to 1 or 2 would get you your animal fix, while taking down the number of pages you follow, and thus the number of posts you see!
  • inspiration pages. How many (if you’re like me) bullet journal pages are you following? How many of pretty notes? How many of aesthetic-minimalistic lifestyles? How many of insane photography? Pick your favorite, and unfollow all the rest. If you’re like me, you’re following these pages for your own photos and for inspiration. How many of these pages post things that you won’t ever, EVER accomplish? Unfollow them! The only thing they’re doing is reminding you how you’re not aesthetic enough.
  • celebrities. Do you still need to be following that YouTuber that you stopped watching two years ago? Do you REALLY need to be Keeping Up With The Kardashians? They COULD NOT CARE LESS about you, so why are you caring?
  • laziness. How many pages are you still following, simply because you’re too lazy to tap into their profile and unfollow them? UNFOLLOW THEM NOW.

Untitled design.png

  • vague acquaintances. Do you need to be following that girl you passed in the hallway once a week in high school? Do you need to be following your teacher’s daughter? Do you need to be following that person who you’ve just seen vaguely around but have never actually talked to? They don’t know you, they don’t care about you; do yourself a favor and unfollow them.
  • old blogger friends. This makes me sound TERRIBLE, but really. They’ve moved on with their lives, and you’ve moved on from yours. Do you really need to be following them? This is, again, more of the ‘acquaintance’ type, the type you were following because of their blog but you don’t actually read their blog.
  • bloggers that don’t fit your niche. This is kind of related to the “follow chains” type, but these are the people who you stumbled across a couple times and followed. They aren’t posting things you care about, you don’t care about what they’re posting, just unfollow them!
  • nice people whose blogs you read but whose content you don’t care for. There is no written rule that you MUST follow the social media of whoever’s blog you read! If you LOVE someone’s blog, but don’t like their social media, DON’T FOLLOW THEM. NO ONE CARES IF YOU DON’T FOLLOW THEM.

Overall, it’s just that PEOPLE DON’T CARE ABOUT YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA AS MUCH AS YOU THINK. I have to keep reminding myself of this, but do you know how much time you could save if you didn’t care what people cared about on social media?

What are some ways you force yourself to not spend so much time on social media? Have you gone on a purging spree recently? I HIGHLY recommend it: it SAVES LIVES.

Blog RELAUNCH (and other things) PARTAYYYYYY

WHTM July 17

What Happened This Month: July 2017

2017 Resolutions

  1. Do Bible Reading everyday- nope. This year was a very bad year in terms of spiritual growth, and I didn’t read my Bible very much, or pray very much, or anything really. Fail.
  2. Memorize 3 chapters of the Bible- lol nope. I kinda forgot about this one? Fail.
  3. Pray more, and more specifically- *sigh* guess what? Fail.
  4. Clear the dishwasher every morning- I did some? But not even close enough to half so no Fail.
  5. Don’t use more than 1000 hours of internet- I think I got this one? I was about 400 hours in by July or August, then my internet tracker thing needed to update and my computer couldn’t do it, so I lost that app. Seeing how I was less than halfway through more than halfway through the year, I’m going to count this a Success.
  6. Read 150 books- This was my GoodReads goal for the year, but between Junior year and Senior year, I only read 120. But I’m going to count this as I got it, because I’m satisfied with reading 120 books, and besides, it’s the third year I’ve read over 120 books! Success.
    July TBR
  7. Write a total of 300 blogposts- WELL 2016 SELF! BIG GOALS, EH? WOWWWW. I wrote less than 100 total XD Fail.
  8. Comment 3x/day on other blogs- I have about half a years’ worth of comments, (about 540 comments?) in spurts, and I’ve noticed a big increase of traffic on the months that I did. I *think* I’m going to count it? What with everything else that happened this year, I’m pretty happy with how I did, even though it would have been nice if I’d done it all. Success.
  9. Stay on track with family blog- PSHHHHHH ya think? Fail.
  10. Post regularly on Instagram- Not very regular, but I did post more? I posted 65 times on my blogstagram and 48 times on my personal, so I’m going to count it. Success.
  11. Do more art- Well. I never really defined what ‘more’ is, but I’ve improved a lot more in the world of typography and word art type stuff? (I don’t know what it’s called lol) I’m going to count it.  Success.
  12. Don’t drink any carbonated drinks- This is the one thing I actually did XD. I went without soda for a whole year (excluding like 5 mouthfuls) and I don’t miss it? So I think I’m going to continue next year. Success.
  13. Exercise (at least 1 hour) intensively every week…maybe get into running?- pffffff as if. Fail.
  14. Drink more water- I tried (well, all for this week. I’m super dehydrated rn lol). I have a nice collection of water bottles (of great importance) and it worked. Sorta. Success.

7/14! [with no cheating obviously pshh] (compared to 8/13 last year and 9/14 two years ago, so percentagely lower than previously, but that’s okay.)

2018 Resolutions

2018 is going to be a huge of growth and change and I don’t know what’s going to happen, so I’m going to play it month-by-month more than yearly, so there’s going to be less Yearly resolutions this year.

  1. Do monthly goals
  2. Read my Bible daily and also keep a journal/prayer journal daily
  3. Get out of bed for the day (aka don’t get back into bed once I get up in the morning)
  4. Spend more time unplugged
  5. Brush my teeth before I go to bed at night (believe it or not, I’ve been really bad at it this year/semester)
  6. Give up [a to-be-determined list of foods]
  7. Make money with one of my hobbies (art/blogging/etc)

So that’s that. Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!

Blogmas Day 19: BLOGGER INTERVIEWS!

HELLO EVERYBODY!!! Do you want to be interviewed on my blog? If so, read on!

Blogmas 2017(10)

Next year, I’m planning on doing a (hopefully) monthly series spotlighting various creatives. You get to talk about why you do what you do, what inspires you, and all that fun kind of stuff! You also get to share your art and promote your book

If you’re interested, fill out this form, and I’ll contact you!

And that’s it! I’m looking forward to this!

Blog RELAUNCH (and other things) PARTAYYYYYY

BLOGOSPHERE!

This is going to be basically an INTERNET PARTY on my blog/social media! I’ve wanted to do a giveaway for some time now, but I wasn’t sure what to do it for. (honestly I’m still not sure but eh who’s caring?)

Giveaway.jpg

SO. This is gonna be a celebration for

  1. 100 Followers on the Blog, Twitter, and Instagram (lol I’m actually at 200 on twitter already) so basically i’m famous now
  2. 2 (and a half, heck) years blogiversary
  3. Going into my SENIOR YEAR
  4. and A BLOG RELAUNCH!!!!

basically, everything you could ever do on the internet.

By entering the giveaway, you’re in the running for a watercolor quote calligraphy art thing that I did, a hand written letter to you, and a custom t-shirt that I make for you (and possibly some other surprise stuff that I haven’t decided on yet *wink*)!

If you’ve been poking around on the blog this past weekend, you MAY have noticed some *changes* to the blog! The general layout is still the same (but may change soon), but it’s WHITE now and so #professional, right? I’m relaunching my blog!

Soooooooo that means I’m going to be changing up the blogging schedule a bit! Starting from the END of August (when the giveaway closes), I’ll be back to posting *once* a week, on Fridays. Book reviews may appear also on Monday, but who reads those anyhow they will be sporadic.

However, with that, I’m also going to be trying to putting more thought into the blogposts….as in actually thinking about what to post more than an hour before I need it posted….*hides*

ALSO, you may know, I’ve heading into my SENIOR YEAR of high school. o.0 WHAT??? With that, comes college applications and adulting stuff and probably less time to spend trying weird things on the internet. Running a giveaway is something on my senior bucket list that I’m doing, and SO YAS.

Now….ON TO THE GIVEAWAY.

Rules:

  • This giveaway is open from Monday, August 14 to Thursday, August 31 at 11:59pm.  I’ll draw a winner and announce them on (or around) Sunday, August 13
  • You must have parent permission to enter (aka give your address away if you win)
  • Open IN THE US ONLY (sorry international friends…I am still a poor student with almost no money)
  • I will notify the winner BY EMAIL within 48 hours of the giveaway closing
  • Once notified, winners have 48 hours to respond with their details to claim the prize. After 48 hours, I will choose another winner

Awkward-

  • That part of the clothes cycle where you wear black t-shirts everyday so no one can tell if it’s the same shirt or not
  • When it’s 2am and you still haven’t listened to the 30 minute long Bright Eyes Podcast yet but still manage to do it, even if you’re working a full day the next day
  • When you collect 6 assorted glasses etc from your room so now you’re basically the model for the World’s Most Rebellious Teenager™

  • Writing “As a high school student” but deciding to change it to “as a student” bc it’s college, but typing “As a high student” instead.

That Moment When-

  • When you listen to Bright Eyes Podcast at 2:30am with moths at your window, rain falling, in the dark and being straight up paralyzed in fear
  • You discover that Julie Andrews has a daughter whose name is basically Emma Watson Hamilton (it’s Emma Walton Hamilton, but who’s checking?)
  • You’re lying in bed with no pants on because that’s clearly how you adult
  • You meet a friend at youth group whom you haven’t seen for literally 6 years but you feel like you know each other because of Instagram and the leader is going “???” because of how teens communicate these days *eyeroll*
  • Trying to take a screenshot to show your cracked screen. Needless to say, it didn’t work

What Happened This Month: June 2017

and thus concludes another month. It was an eventful month: the end of the school year and the beginning of summer (and work); it was a month of many, many birthdays of people I love. It was also a good month for my twitter analytics, apparently.

Happenings-

  • SO MANY BIRTHDAYS. Jeneca, Anna Joy, Aimee, Lindsey, Sydney, Vanessa, Abbiee, and my best friend. ❤
  • My cousin came over and stayed at our house for two weeks! We also went to NYC together, so that was fun. *spouts Hamilton lyrics*
    615351630559786041?account_id=7.jpg
  • I ‘participated’ in my first 24hour readathon, even though I only finished one and a half books
  • Twitter updated. It’s sleek but weird
  • I started my summer internship. Working 40 hours a week is INTENSE and now I know why everyone on twitter is like #TGIF
  • I revealed the pronunciation of my name to the world and everyone was confused

Awesome-

  • This thread happened

  • The Science Olympiad events for 2018 came out and I got unrealistically excited, particularly because I’m not even doing it next year
  • This

  • I found MBTI Bingo Cards and they are the best thing ever. Also, I’m stereotypically ESFP
  • Reading A Series of Unfortunate Events, and seeing everyone who’s already read it on GoodReads and feeling like you’ve entered some Secret Reading Club
  • Being much too sassy for my own good on my Music Theory notes
  • A little boy at the grocery store who was so happy that his mom bought him his very own drink that he waved at me

Awkward-

  • When you’re at work writing to-do lists of all the things you’re going to do when you get home, but then actually be at home on social media because the wifi at work is terrible
  • When you’re cleaning out your backpack and find a bunch of gum…all partially unwrapped at the bottom
  • Being in the campus library with your backpack upstairs to keep from eating all the food before 2pm
  • Accidentally walking in between a gay couple holding hands in New York City
  • Accidentally being in New York City the week of #NYCPride and being inundated with RAINBOW EVERYTHING
  • The week you’re off work, the office does pizza, team building, and escape room
  • Overhearing two ladies talking about being on their period . . . then seeing that they’re wearing white and pale pink pants
  • Light green and purple scrapbook paper. Like ??? UGLY MUCH???

That Moment When-

  • You’re off twitter for ONE DAY and have to spend 45 minutes catching up
  • There are calluses on your dominant index finger and you can’t type with it on your screen
  • You’re not a gambler, but you wore white jeans
  • One small thing suddenly reminds you of how much you miss something you didn’t know you missed 😭😭💕💕
  • YOU ACTUALLY HAVE A LEGIT PILE OF BOOKS TO READ LIKE WHATTTTT
    July TBR

Quotes-

“Basically, I sound like I know what I’m doing but really, I have no idea” ~me when people ask about college stuff

“I’m going on a keto-diet! No bread, nothing!”
